My income is small from mowing lawns and i'm a full-time student so i believe in the part where we are an open source community. I'm also technical and anything to expand my knowledge is good for me so i don't mind learning squirrel and reading all the documentation and creating my own scripts and giving them away for free. but if there is a great game out there without support and it takes a lot of work to build a script for (i.e. Borderlands) then i think it would be fair to make something for it. So i believe tom is hitting the right points with his plan.

I personally wouldn't use F-GEN, none of the current scripts meet HL2s needs. There's only about 30 minutes left in the game anyway.

If you want to try though, open the F-GEN manager, put HL2.exe (\Steam\steamapps\*username*\half-life 2\hl2.exe) into F-GEN, match it with your script of choice (I would use Shammah's script, but the L4D2 script would also work, you can download them in the F-GEN section) then just start up HL2.

Note that with the current F-Gen scripts you won't get event specific forces, like a building collapsing.

I had those problems too. Everyone here knows that Haptics-Life 2 is VERY buggy. I assume you don't know what happens next in the story (the way you type makes it seem like it's your first time playing).

If you don't want to miss out on the story, start up HL2 normally, open the dev console (Settings > Keyboard > Advanced > Enable Dev console > ~) and type 'sv_unlockallchapters' (It's something like that, but just typing 'sv_unlock' should give you the command in the drop down menu). Then just start a new game from the last chapter. You won't get the Falcon forces unless you use F-Gen, but it will let you finish the game.

OK, at the risk of sounding like a bitch...

I got past the fact that I could not take my jeep past a point where it should have been able to pass (Electrical junction where the SUV had to be pushed off the cliff - the power would not shut down and I had to leave the jeep). I ran the rest on foot.

However, now after 30+ hours of HL2 fighting, dying and figuring, I have reached an impass. My save point calls this "Dark Energy", but the online walk-throughs call this "Our Benefactor".

I have made my way through to the appropriate pod and taken the trip into the cell. It dropped me and I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to get out of this cell with two ends that have force-fields, as well as what appear to be 2 "zappers".

Finally, against my better wishes, I chose to look up the walk-through. According to a visual walkthrough, http://www.visualwalkthroughs.com/halflife2/ourbenefactors/ourbenefactors.htm (look at slide 17) I should have dropped, lost my weapons (except gravity gun) and gone on to world domination. I did drop. I lost NO weapons and am now sitting in an inactive cell that I cannot get out of.

Likewise, when I attempt to refer to a previous auto or fast save, I have to jump back three levels and start over again. (in spite of dozens of saves in-between)

Am I missing something or is there a hole in the programming. Invested a lot of time here and would love to finish the game, moving onto the next episode, but very discouraged.

Im a very new user so here's my perspective- last december the selling point that convinced me was full orange box support, nothing extra to download or buy- full, integrated game support for my favorite games.

To be quite honest, N-Vent and f-Gen have made me slightly worried, considering how much I was enjoying being able to launch TF2 without any extra software running, and especially not worrying about extra configurable data for that software.
Im a big L4D2 player, and i'm sort of worried that the support i'll end up with will be worse than what was in L4D1.

I guess, after tasting orange box support, my mouth is sour at the idea of "scripts". So far i've only seen simple scripts that dont provide a true connection with the game (keypress watching etc), and promises of better technology.
I understand this is not the topic of this thread, but thats how I feel about it.

With that in mind, and considering I do love the falcon, i'd be willing to pay a little to get the same support we have for the orange box. It wont exactly make me happy- when I purchased this not a month ago, I never expected to have to buy extra software.

Im mostly concerned about the fairness of forcing people to buy support for games they already bought, but seeing this:

tomnovint Wrote:
-------------------------------------------------------
> I believe that we'll make it a rule that all games with a paid version will
>have at least a simple F-Gen version as well - no one will have to pay anything
>if they don't want. That's an important point. If it's worth $2 to get that
>extra support and pay a fair value for someone's efforts, then they can. If not,
> they can get the free version.

is great.

Last thing, from the perspective of a prospective buyer, this sounds terrible. Knuckleheads in discussion forums won't talk about this how it is- they'll blow it all out of proportion:
"You pay 200 bucks for some gimmick controller and they expect you to BUY more software for games you've already BOUGHT?"
Sounds terrible... If you love the falcon you'll understand, if you're unsure its just terrible...

I'm using an HD4850 and have similar graphical glitches only when the Shader option is lower than High.

You could probably try deleting all the cached models in the "core\cache" folder, switch to a lower Shader option, then change it back to High.

I think that hotfix would be a guaranteed fix though if we could get it to work. I have the invisible walls and giant over sized models problem on the Haptx version, but my copy on Steam has no graphical issues at all.
