a 12 year old's perspective on Novint's Games

Hey Everyone, I asked Josh, joshposh on our boards, to help me understand the Falcon from a 12 year old's perspective. He played most of our games, and ranked and reviewed them. I've found that he is very bright, and very helpful in understanding the younger age range. I love that we got him involved with Novint in reviewing our games - I was very pleased with the work he put into it. I asked him to give an honest appraisal of the games from a 12 year old's perspective, and to post those individual reviews in each game summary. Here is a note from him about himself, and a summary below that of his favorites.

thanks

I am Joshua (Joshposh5) , son of Mykee36. Its been just me and my dad since 2003 when my mom passed with cancer. Other than that I am just your typical 12 year old middle school kid,(scary thought). I have been a gamer since I was old enough to watch tv. From PSone,Xbox,Gameboy, to a quad-core Vista 32bit computer and soon to be Windows 7, I have played them all. I currently own the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. I play mostly Garry's mod, RPG's and MMO's and a few shooters. Got hooked on the Falcon last year after seeing it on X-play and knew I had to have it for my Orange box games. Still hope for F-gen Garry's mod support. Currently playing Mount & Blade, Aion, Call of Duty World at War, TF2, Garry's mod (with and without glove pie)and trying out F-gen alpha drivers on a few other games.

Josh's top 20 list

1. Klectit - I made this my number once choice because it combines great ideas taken from other games into a short game that is even better than the game it is taken from. Also what this game really needs is a sequel. This is a great kids and adult's game.

2. Gish - I highly recommend this game. It's easy to see how it was a IGF award winner, but at some points in the game it got to difficult for younger kids. Sometimes you would have to push three Falcon buttons at the same time while making difficult moves with the controller.

3. Tear Down - This game was one of the best for the Novint in all of my reports. I like the game that it is similar to (Breakout) but you managed to make it even better. Novint should look into doing this with other popular arcade games. Forces and power-ups were all setup just right for the game. I like the variety in the game play and levels.

4. Cell Blast - Over all Cell Blast is fun and easy to understand for kids my age and older. Yet for some smaller children parts of the game would be difficult to understand. This game works well with the Falcon.

5. Snowbear - The game play and settings were good for this game. I like how the game may not have the worlds best graphics but it can still manage to be so addicting.

6. Chicken A La Kart - This one of the best games Novint has in my demographic. I love the variety of the power-ups and the forces you feel with them. For those who have not tired this game, it is similar to Mario Kart. Watch out for the hole!

7. Fowllywood - The BEST of the Chicken Hunter games by far! Great options menu, multiple levels, pretty much everything I suggested for the other Chicken Shooters is in this game. Great for all ages.

8. Impulse Thruster - One of my favorites

9. Aquatreous - Over all a good game. I liked how there was a resolution options menu and the user was able to change the forces.

10. Force Fighter - This game reminded me of kids a version of Warhawk for the PS3. There was a complete options menu to help in changing forces to better suit even younger kids.

11. Not Cho Cheese - This game is unique and very entertaining. All it needs is more power-ups in the game play. Possibly faster enemies as you progress in the game. Aside from that the game is entertaining for all ages.

12. Tobbit - Good options menu except needs a resolution option. Several of the games could benefit from having higher resolution settings. A good idea would be to make separate levels for each difficulty setting and also make some kind of store to buy power-ups. With these changes a good game could be even better. Good game for my demographic and younger. I wish there were more games like this one.

13. Temple of Sing Song - Needs more options in the menu to change settings. I like the concept of guns but the problem is the movements are not sensitive enough. Moving the Falcon could be to hard for younger kids. Some of the game play is hard to understand. Example being trying to jump off ropes. But after awhile I got the hang of it. There needs to be a tutorial. Specially for younger kids. Good fighting mechanics. With these improvements I see this as one of your best games.

14. Mo the Mole - I noticed this game was made by Novint. I like how this game is a twist on a popular arcade game. The forces and option menu were perfect. This is a good arcade type game.

15. Cre8 - This is a great free game for the Falcon. It almost felt like Spore creature creator, if you could touch the animal models. There is not to much I can say about this game except it would make a good feature in other games if further developed. Great learning tool for young kids.

16. Artic Stud Poker Run - Simply put a better version of Chicken Hunter Buck Shot. What was lacking in Buckshot seems to have been added into this game. Another great game for younger kids.

17. Butter Bean - This game is similar to the old Mario 2-d games and I liked it. This is one of your best games for kids. I like how the higher you get in the air the higher the Falcon moves with you. This would be good for other 2-d games. I had no problems with the game or the forces. It all felt natural and would work fine for younger kids.

18. Bird of a Feather - See the Chicken Hunter Buckshot review.

19. Chicken Hunter Buckshot - A major problem with the game is that game play is too predictable and lacks surprises. Fun for kids if they want a arcade-like hunting game. There is no options menu so be careful, the forces are to strong in the game for a smaller child to handle the Falcon.

20. Chicken Hunter Retro - See the Chicken Hunter Buckshot review.
